SJSU Sustainability Matters Series Nov. Event: Where does our food come from? Food, Farming & SJSU

October 30, 2009, 11:28 am

The purposes of this workshop are twofold:

1) to present information on sustainable food purchasing, agriculture, and the SJSU food system; and

2) to begin a dialogue about the future of sustainable dining at SJSU that includes students, faculty, and staff.

The session will be moderated by Rachel O'Malley (Associate Professor, Environmental Studies).

Our panelists are:
Eugene Cordero (Associate Professor, Meterology)
Marjorie Freedman (Asst. Professor, Nutrition and Food Science)
Jay Marshall (Executive Chef, Spartan Catering)
Jeff Pauley (Dining Services Director, Spartan Dining)
Tony Serrano (General Manager, Alba Organics).

Attendees will learn about the progress that has been made in moving SJSU to more a sustainable food system and how to make personal food choices that will reduce their ecological footprint.

Sustainable food and drink will be provided, and all attendees will be entered in a raffle for free Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) boxes of locally grown produce to be given away at the end of the workshop. All interested students, faculty, and staff are welcome.
